The Oasis House
A cool, bright home in teal and white plaster, built around a long kitchen counter.
Desert outside, cool water inside — a house that's designed to read as shade.
The palette is the whole idea: deep teal above white plaster, dark cabinetry, sage tile. Nothing in the house is warm except the lamplight, which is exactly what makes walking into it feel like stepping out of the sun.
The kitchen is the social centre rather than a service area. A long counter with stools faces into the room, the cooking side sits behind it, and a stone basin anchors the far end of the run. The dining table is a separate, heavier piece — live-edge timber with folding chairs — so the two areas read as different rooms without a wall between them.
A plaster staircase as open shelving, and the lounge beside it is kept deliberately spare: one sofa, one low table, a couple of framed pieces. After the density of the kitchen, that restraint is what reads as luxury.
What went into it
- A balance between modern and traditional, luxury and approachable, Thanalan and a CB2 catalogue
- A single cool palette held throughout — teal, white plaster, dark wood, sage tile
- The kitchen counter turned to face the room, so it seats guests instead of hiding the cook
- Layered walls add depth and structure, carving out separate spaces while turning the wallpaper into an accent wall
- One live-edge table as the sole heavy, warm object in an otherwise cool room
